carter's one year pictures.

as i mentioned yesterday, we recently went on our annual vacation and while we were there my awesome sister in law took these beautiful pictures of my boy!
he is still pretty proud of his walking skills.
the shoes slowed him down, but just a little.
 i think he's got the serious model face down pat.
 and he thought he was getting away with something when aunt mandy let him crawl up these steps.
i tried to pick my favorite pictures, but it's really hard...
because all of his expressions are my favorite.
 he was such a little ham. and loved playing with the mason jar lantern.
 and then there's this smile... it kills me.
 thanks for the pictures, mandy. i love them SO much.
oh, and if you were wondering... his button down onesie and jeans are baby gap, shoes are polo, and suspenders and bowtie are both from etsy.
the kid has style ;)

a catch all.

we squeezed the very last little bit out of summer and took our annual family vacation to st. simons island just in time before the cooler temperatures hit. my mom found an awesome house with a private pool and we enjoyed some good quality time. carter decided that he likes the ocean as well as playing in the sand and was a total ham for his aunt mandy to take his one year old pictures {i'll be posting those tomorrow!}
even though i am a little late to the "all things fall" post party i am super excited for this season... i'm trying to get together a post with our family fall bucket list as well, but there will definitely be lots of college football, crock pot meals, cardigans and leggings.
i FINALLY bit the bullet and signed up for stitch fix. i have to admit that i'm a little nervous that i won't like anything in my "fix". i have struggled a bit with finding stylish yet mom appropriate clothes since having carter... so fingers crossed that i will find some new clothes that i feel good in!

in efforts of having some consistent "mommy time", i've been reading every night before bed. i'm currently about half way through "what alice forgot" by liane moriarty. i'm really liking it, and i'm planning on looking into her other books after i finish it... but if ya'll have any recommendations, let me know what your favorites are!

in other exciting news i will be co-hosting a fall blog swap! sign ups start on wednesday so be on the lookout for that post.

12 months.

dear carter,
i'm sorry that i'm a little late posting your update again... but we officially made it through your first year of life!! while I will still call you my baby for a while for the rest of my life, you are definitely looking more like a big boy these days!
you had your second ear infection (+ another cold) about a week before you turned one :( i could tell you weren't feeling good because you weren't your normal smiley self, and when i layed you down to go to sleep you would cry and want me to snuggle you (which you NEVER do unless you feel bad). after your fever spiked to around 101.5 we made a doctors appointment.

while your first one (2 months ago) was in your left ear, and this one was in your right- the doctor says after 4 in a 6 month period they start talking about tubes... so we are crossing our fingers for no more ear infections! after a day or two on the medicine (cefzil, because you may have had a slight rash reaction to amoxicillin last time), you were back to your normal self, just in time for your party!

{out for mimi's birthday}
{update: two weeks later you had your THIRD ear infection- back in your right ear this time. we're on a third, different antibiotic now, and praying for no more ear infections!}

routine and sleep:
you still typically wake up between 7 and 8:00, take a bottle, and sometimes will go back to sleep for a bit... if it's after 7:30 though, you likely want to get up for the day.
{hugging your cousin, madeline}
you are still taking two naps a day for the most part- 11ish and 4ish, but some days you will fight the afternoon nap, especially if you took a long morning nap. i think you're just afraid you're going to miss something exciting, but believe me son... you should REALLY take advantage of the naps now.
{at will's birthday party}

clothes and diapers:
you are wearing size 12 month separates and 18 month one-piece outfits. and still in size 4 diapers.
{at the aquarium for an early birthday celebration!}
you have tried a lot of new foods this month and the gagging issue is continuing to get better! at will's birthday party you tried (and LOVED) baked beans... you have also decided that you like potato chips, pasta, pears, peaches, apples, and mandarin oranges. you also love gerber cookies, and yogurt is still your favorite. now, if we can just work some veggies in there ;) we're still doing pouches and purees for those for now... you're also drinking organic whole milk at meal times, and seem to like it but we're not quite ready switch over completely since you still need the calories from the formula.

our favorite baby items:
your oball push toy is probably your favorite these days... and you got lots of fun toys for your birthday! you love your ride on airplane from "uncle" jon and "aunt" Katie and your police car cozy coupe from mimi and pops.
milestones and development:
the day before you turned one, we decided to get your hair cut! I've trimmed it for you a couple of times, but this was your first real haircut. you didn't mind it at all- especially after the hairstylist gave you a grape dum dum sucker!
and just three days after your birthday, you started WALKING while mimi and pops were in town watching the georgia game. you are really proud of yourself for that one!
{update} you also now blow kisses, say bye bye and make lots of new sounds!

you love to laugh... anytime you hear mommy or daddy laugh, you will, too! you are just a happy boy and we are SO thankful for that.

you weren't too happy about getting shots, but what baby is?!

this has been the best year of my life, thank you so much for making me a mama, baby boy!

on being a boy mom.

i am so happy that elizabeth has asked me to be a part of her #boymom series because there is really no greater joy in my life than being a momma to this guy. and i loved writing the post so much that i decided to share it on my blog as well!
but if i were to be honest, i'd tell you that i've always pictured myself having a daughter... i babysat a little girl for years and then i became an aunt when i was in college and obsessed over my sweet perfect niece, sophia. i had been through all the girly stuff myself. i know about barbies, american girl dolls, and tea parties AND i can french braid hair {is that still a girl mom "must"?... i don't know}.
i was comfortable having a baby girl.

there was so much i didn't know about having a baby boy- important things- like how do you change a diaper without getting peed on? and where do you even shop for cute boy clothes?

well, you know what they say about life starting outside of your comfort zone? that's exactly how i feel about being a boy mom.
when we announced that we were pregnant with our little GUY {around 22 weeks}, every boy mom that i knew would tell me how much fun they were- and emphasize the fact that boys REALLY love their mommas. i'd smile and agree, but i didn't really get it. not until carter came into my world on august 27, 2013.
from the beginning i have felt a special bond with my boy. when he was a little baby, i swear he had a smile that he reserved just for me. i love the way i am always able to calm him down when he is upset, and how i know he feels safe and secure when i am holding him. even during the newborn stage, in the middle of the night when sometimes my boy wouldn't sleep unless i was holding him.
despite the pure exhaustion, i really cherish the memories of nights sleeping sitting up, pillows propped on both sides of me, a baby carter sleeping snuggled on my chest.

a lot has happened since then. my boy has grown into a crazy fast-paced walking one year old, and my life is BUSY. whether he's playing in cat food, pouring a bottle all over his outfit on the way to dinner, or eating potting soil/ grass/ fuzz from the rug... carter keeps me on my toes.
i have even found him happily splashing in the toilet. twice. maybe three times. {we try to keep the lid down and doors shut, but it happens}.
i've found that whatever makes your baby happy makes YOU happy. so i've traded in my thoughts of bows, dolls and teacups for cars, planes and trains.

and i'm really excited about future trips to legoland and riding a real train together one day. i wouldn't trade being a boy mom for anything in this world... carter lights up my life and i know that he will always keep things fun and interesting! being his mom is everything and i am SO blessed to call him mine.
oh, and don't worry, i've figured out where to shop... it turns out they make pretty cute baby boy clothes, too ;)
the hubs is happy that i am able to save a little money on all the hairbows that i'm not buying.
{so let's not mention all the bow ties, monogrammed clothes, and party hats... deal?}
