ahoy, it's a boy!!

this weekend our sweet friends holly and maggie got together and threw us an amazing nautical themed co-ed baby shower {which of course, i loved!}
we had hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, baked beans, mac n cheese, cole slaw, and these delicious {and cute!} anchor cupcakes...
 and i was absolutely in love with the banners that maggie made...
i tried to get will to take a picture with me, but he wasn't too happy about it... can you believe how big this little guy has gotten? it's hard to believe that this time next year carter will be this big, too!
 all of our friends completely spoiled us and our baby boy and brought the cutest gifts
luann and brian went with a vacation theme {since we all know how much the hubs and i like to travel} and gave us this basket filled with beach and bath toys...
and tracy brought this adorable "daddy dooty kit" for greg which everyone got a good laugh out of...
and i loved seeing things monogrammed... it makes it so much more real to see his name and initials!
here's some of the crew watching us open presents... i hate that i didn't think to take a picture with everyone :(
{paul, lacie and baby olivia... erin, chris and brandi}
i loved all the thoughtful touches holly and maggie added to the shower as well- like having everyone bring a book instead of a card to start carter's library...
 and write down wishes for him as he grows up...
and adding a little humor in by writing "advice and laughs" on diapers to make us smile through those middle of the night changes.
and i had to get pictures with the fabulous hostesses {even though it was late and the lighting wasn't so great}-
holly...
 and maggie :)
 and we couldn't forget about the daddy...
who i can tell is already SO loved by our little boy... because almost every time he rubs my belly, carter gives him a kick ;)
{29 weeks preggo}
after the shower, i am seriously feeling so blessed. greg and i are so lucky to have such sweet friends to love on baby carter!!

28 week bumpdate

How far along? 28 weeks- officially in my 3rd trimester! holy moly, time is starting to fly by!
Total weight gain/loss: still not weighing myself until my next doctors appt {which is july 2nd}- but i FEEL like i have gained several...my belly feels so much bigger than it did 2 weeks ago.
Maternity clothes? mostly maternity now... although i do have some pieces i can still wear from my regular wardrobe... and i've bought a couple of clearance dresses in a size up.
Stretch marks? still looking pretty good... but my belly is getting REALLY tight and full feeling lately.
Sleep: i've been contemplating buying a pregnancy pillow... they're expensive, but i think it would make sleeping a lot more comfortable.
Best moment: hearing that i passed the 3 hour glucose test and i do not have gestational diabetes... yayyy!
Miss Anything? being able to walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath. i am really looking forward to working out again after baby gets here... i feel so out of shape!
Movement: he's still moving a lot and sometimes it feels more like him dancing around than a quick kick.
Food cravings: sonic cherry limeade slush... yum. and they're only like $1 during happy hour {which is 2-4pm, for anyone who is wondering}!
Anything making you queasy or sick: nah.
Have you started to show yet: definitely.
Gender: a BOY!!!
Belly Button in or out? in.
Labor Signs: all clear.
Wedding rings on or off? on.
Happy or Moody most of the time: pretty happy.
Looking forward to: our first baby shower is this weekend and i am SO excited :)

five on friday.

-ONE-
 today is the first official day of summer... wait, what?!
will someone explain to me where exactly june has gone? i'd be okay if time slowed down just a bit... this is my last summer child-free and i plan on living it up. we have so many exciting things coming up in the next few weeks- another beach trip, our first baby shower, and maternity pictures!!
speaking of living it up....

-TWO-
last night was the boys 2 men, 98 degrees, and new kids on the block concert. i think baby carter was wondering where the heck were were for the first half of the concert. and then... i can't be sure, but i think he was fist pumping to NKOTB.

i may be dragging a little bit today... but it was totally worth it- such a fun night with these ladies.
{lorrie, me, angie, jessica and aleaha}
and yes, i realize my color {or lack there of} makes me look a little sick in this picture. being pregnant really put a cramp in my tanning routine.

-THREE-
preparations for baby carter are in full swing... we took a baby care basics class at the hospital this week. and ya'll. hubs was the cutest thing swaddling and "burping" that baby doll {i begged him to take a picture, but he wouldn't let me}. i am sure i am absolutely going to melt when it's time for the real deal.
{greg with his "greatest dad ever" tumbler that i got him for fathers day}
also, my sweet in-laws purchased our stroller and car seat and we were excited for them to be delivered last week! we immediately put it together {with ease, surprisingly} and i pushed it around the house a bit ;)

-FOUR-
this little guy has been a little clingy lately... i think that he has an idea something is up around here. he won't lay on my belly like he used to, and he is really suspicious of anything new coming into the house. i really hope he and carter can get along- because they're going to be stuck with each other regardless ;)

-FIVE-
we are growing tomatoes!... and by "we", i mean the hubs is growing tomatoes {i pretty much kill anything that requires watering}. despite this fact, i have high hopes of growing blueberries, strawberries, and pretty flowers all over my yard... but for now, let's see if these babies actually make it on a sandwhich.

happy weekend, lovies!

the registry: odds and ends.

today i'm here with some of the little things to finish up our registry picks. there were a couple of small things that i knew i wanted to include on the baby registries...

1. just born hooded towel: seriously ya'll, is there anything better than a squeaky clean baby wrapped up in a hooded towel? i'm not sure how many baby will "need"- i definitely registered for several varieties ;)

2. boon lawn countertop dryer: this is one of my friend maggie's favorites... and i agree with her philosophy- if it has to be on your kitchen counter, it may as well be cute- right? even has little twigs and flowers that you can attach to hold the bottle parts.

3. sophie: by now, you've probably all heard of sophie... aka- the greatest teething toy ever- maggie thinks it's because the by chewing on the legs, the baby is able to reach the back of their gums. all i know is sophie is on just about every "must have" list, so i added her to mine as well.

4. giraffe wubbanub: these come in a variety of animals {but you may have noticed by now, but i kind of have a thing for giraffes} and not only are they cute- they actually serve a pretty clever purpose! this helps hold a passy in baby's mouth so you can focus on holding the wheel while you are driving and not turning around backwards while your kid cries their head off because they spit their passy out for the twenty-seventh time.

5. halo sleep sack: i gotta admit, i don't think these are the cutest things in the world... but after seeing them on multiple "must have" lists {and having another random lady in buy buy baby urge me to give them a try}, i decided to add them to the registry. and when it comes down to it... if it helps my baby sleep through the night, i don't really care what it looks like.

6. tommee tippee closer to nature bibs: another not to cute but clever item... these bibs are super soft, but the ring around the top helps prevent the milk from dripping down their chin and into baby's neck rolls ;)

7. on the go sound machine: this is the mini version of the sleep machines with calming nature sounds {ocean, whales, etc}... again, i'm supportive of anything that will help promote my baby sleeping well.

8. gripe water: at first i didn't think to register for any medicines, but after multiple people {including a random lady at target} have suggested that we get gripe water... i decided it would be a good thing to have on hand for when baby's tummy is upset {i also added a couple other little remedies brand items thanks to random target girl's recommendation}.

9. elegant baby blanket: since carter is scheduled to arrive in the fall, lots of blankets will be necessary to keep my baby warm during the winter months {unless he is super hot natured like his daddy... in that case, i may be the one needing the blankets!}

now that you have seen all of my top registry picks, what are your favorite baby items?
are there any necessities that i've left off?

he said/she said.

i saw this survey on meghan's blog last week and wanted to post it myself! thanks for letting me steal the idea, meghan!
{tailgating before a georgia game, fall 2007}

how long have you been together?
greg:
 7 years, 3 months, 27 days.

lori:
we've been married for just over 3 years, but together for almost 7 and a half.

Where was your first date?
greg: The brick in Milledgeville, I was a nervous wreck!
lori: the brick, a local restaurant. I had chicken fingers and i'm pretty sure he had fettuchini alfrado.
{my brothers wedding, october 2009}
Where was your first kiss?
greg: Outside of the duplex I was living in on Anthony Way (the hood)
lori: in the driveway of his duplex, the day i moved out of the dorms... 2 and a half months after our first date!

Who first said, "I love you"?
greg: Pretty sure I did (I was pretty shy for a while though)
lori: i did. he probably would have waited FOREVER if someone didn't take the initiative ;)
{may 2010}
Who is her celebrity crush?
greg: I think it changes, but Channing Tatum has seemed to catch her eye lately.
lori: umm... ryan reynolds would probably be my top pick right now.

If she was ordering drinks for both of you what would you each get?
greg: She would prefer a margarita, but being preggo right now probably means water or tea.
lori: currently i'd get me a water and him a beer {miller lite, probably}... i'd get my non-preggo self a margarita.
{our wedding, may 2010}
What is the best meal she has ever cooked you?
greg: she has cooked many great meals, which is one of the many things i love about her. It is hard to narrow it down to just one. She finds healthy but tasty recipes that we both like, which can take a lot of time to research.
lori: i'm going to guess he'd say cheesy chicken or chicken casserole...

What is the worst meal she has ever cooked you?
greg: Can't say I can remember a meal she cooked that I did not eat. She does like tortellini, which i am not always a fan of.
lori: it's not a meal... but one year i wanted to make him an oreo cheesecake for his birthday {he LOVES oreos}- so i asked my dad for the recipe {he is known for his cheesecakes}... and apparently he told me the wrong temperature to bake it at, because when i took the spring pan off, the cheesecake was more like pudding. i was so upset, but greg just ate it with a spoon and said it was delicious :)
{honeymoonin' in st lucia}
What would she say is your most annoying habit?
 greg: leaving stuff laying around the house and not always cleaning up after myself.
lori: not picking up after himself... specifically, leaving 5 pair of shoes by the bed and cups/drinks everywhere.

What is the last thing she does before she goes to bed?
greg: checks her phone :)
lori: i take out my contacts and wash my face.

{summer 2011}
What would you say is your favorite thing about her?
greg: She has an incredible talent of making sure to remember the important things/moments/people in life and embracing/lovign them. She is a very giving person who spends a lot of time thinking about the gifts she is giving, because she wants them to be meaningful. She is seriously my better half because she has all the qualities and traits in the areas that I fall short in. I am the lucky one.
lori: i think he would say that i'm very thoughtful- he tells me that a lot. especially when i'm spending lots of money on presents for other people.

What's her go-to drink at Starbucks?
greg: She likes the seasonal drinks they have, especially around Christmas. She does however always have a sweet spot for the Java Chip Frappuchino.
lori: a frappuchino, either mocha or java chip.

i had fun doing this, and would like to incorporate greg more into the blog...
{november 2012}
so, do you have any questions you'd like to ask my hubs? about me, becoming a first time dad, anything else you've been wondering?... leave them in the comments!

"around the house" registry picks.

last week i posted about our "on the go" registry picks... and today i am talking about the exact opposite- the things we plan on using around the house to keep baby carter safe and happy :)
activity mat: i knew i wanted one of these for tummy time, and playing when carter is real little. i asked the hubs for his opinion and to be honest... we mainly picked it because we liked the way it looked. i thought the owls and tree animals were adorable.

combi all in one activity walker: greg and i are not huge fans of the walkers/activity toys that have a million things for the baby to look at/push/hit, etc... we feel like it's a little overstimulating. i liked this one because it wasn't overkill, and it received good reviews as well. and... i can't help but look forward to how cute carter will look in the old fashioned car ;)

snugabunny rock n play: i have heard so many great things about these and i just love the neutral bunny design- perfect for a baby boy or girl! i plan on keeping it in our room for carter to sleep in when he's real little, especially if he has reflux issues. we also registered for the matching swing, which i imagine we will keep the swing downstairs in the living room.

giraffe play mat: i mainly felt like we needed this because our downstairs is 98% hardwood floors... so this will make it easier/more comfortable when baby is lounging around. plus, it's cute, right?!

chicco polly high chair: a high chair is obviously important for feeding carter when he gets a little older... the basic decision was if we wanted one to snap into one of our dining chairs, or a free standing one... greg prefered the free standing, since we have the space and that way we didn't have to take up a dining chair with the baby.

bumbo: i'm sure all of you know about the bumbo seats by now... i particularly wanted either the aqua or mint {which are online only at most stores... but they did have them in stock at buy buy baby} since they were more gender neutral and would work for all the williams babies to come. we also registered for the tray to go with it in case you want to give baby a snack while he's sitting in it.

motorola 2.8" color video monitor: this is a decision i left completely up to the hubs. he is better with technology than i am, and that was a little more of a fun decision for him than play mats and bumbo seats. though the salesman urged us to select the one who alerts you if baby stops breathing or moving in his sleep, we decided against that- we thought it would probably do more harm than good when i had a heart attack in the middle of the night at a false alarm. i think this colored screen one fits our needs perfectly!

graco pack n play: this is what we plan on keeping in our room for carter to sleep in for the first few months {until he is sleeping through the night and can be moved to his crib}. it is intended to "grow with baby", since it has a newborn napper area, as well as a space to change the baby in the middle of the night. and again, the color/pattern was neutral enough to not stand out too much in our bedroom and give us plenty of use in the years to come.

now that you've seen our top picks for spending time at home... there anything you think i should add?

i am planning on posting the final "odds and ends" of our registry series this week, so check back for that!

fathers day letters.

{one of my favorite wedding pictures, may 2010}
to my daddy: thank you for showing me how a father and husband should act. i definitely think it's because of your example that i picked such a good husband myself. i'm sorry we couldn't see you this weekend, but we are looking forward to some beach time with ya'll soon. happy fathers day, daddy!
{ga. v. ole miss, september 2011}
to my father in law: thank you for accepting me into the family with open arms... and thank you for raising my husband to be such an amazing man. you are always our biggest supporter and we appreciate you so much!! happy fathers day!
to my hubs: happy first {unofficial} fathers day!! i absolutely cannot wait to see you holding your little boy in a couple of short months. you melt my heart when you talk to my belly or talk about what you and carter are going to do together. you are going to make the best daddy, and i am so excited to experience parenthood with you!

i feel so blessed to have all three of you in my life, i love ya'll :)

"on the go" registry picks.

last week when i wrote about how to tackle a baby registry, i promised to share some of what we picked out for baby carter... i'll be splitting it up into three posts, which i'll space out over the next week or so.

while i realize that carter will contain me to the house for a couple of weeks after his arrival, i do hope that he will be an easy baby to take out for walks, to the grocery store, out to eat, etc. so i put a lot of thought into his "baby on the go" picks.

1. diaper bag: i kind of picture this bag for the hubs since it's a messenger bag and a little more manly- and of course, we went with red. and i chose the skip hop grand central take-it-all for me, because it is neutral, it seemed to be about the right size, comfortable to carry, and had a good amount of pockets.

2. ergobaby carrier: i'll be honest... since i have never used one, i felt pretty clueless when selecting a baby carrier... i went back and forth between the baby bjorn and ergobaby- but from reviews and pictures, the ergobaby appears to be the most comfortable since it has more padded shoulders and distributes the weight evenly. we also added a moby wrap for when he's really little, since i like the versatility of how you can tie it differently.

3. graco snugride click connect carseat: despite the order of the collage, we decided on a stroller first {see #8}, which helped us to narrow down the car seats. we knew we needed a graco click connect to fit into our stroller when carter is too small to sit in the stroller by himself and the stores had a limited selection of colors and patterns, so we looked online and found this one. i loved that it had just enough bright blue to not be so boring. then all we had to add was the car seat bases {for both of our cars}.

4. basic strap cover: we added these colorful strap covers for comfort and cuteness... i thought this was the perfect way to make it more "boy" looking... and if the next baby williams happens to be a girl, we can just buy the pink ones for $7.99- much better than having to buy a whole new carseat!

5. baby bjorn travel bed: some friends of ours let us borrow this for my nephew to sleep in when they came to visit, and i was really surprised at how easy it is to put together and collapse... it's light weight {compared to pack n plays} and the mattress is more comfortable for baby. while it's a bit pricy- it will be great for traveling, and i can see us using it for all the williams family babies to come.

6. umbrella stroller: for when carter gets a little older and we don't want to lug around a big stroller... i checked to make sure it was easy to fold and light weight. and being georgia fans, red and black was an easy pick for us.

7. brica high chair cover: since i am crossing my fingers that carter will be an easy baby to take out to eat... and i believe that in order for them to learn to behave in public, you have to take them in public... a high chair cover is a necessity for us. they didn't have a ton of options, but i basically picked it because i thought it was cute.

8. graco modes click connect stroller: we actually picked this out first, but i'm too lazy to redo the collage since this post has taken a little longer than expected. we started out by looking at graco and britax strollers, since i heard they were rated best by consumers. then, i focused on the appearance of the stroller. i was picturing something not so bulky and a darker neutral color {or mostly black} for two reasons: kids are messy and i'm hoping to add a couple more kiddos to the family in the years to come- it'd be nice if we could reuse the expensive gear! this stroller fit the bill... after the hubs and i figured out how to collapse it and established that it was easy to maneuver- we knew this was the one.

do you see anything important that i have forgotten for taking baby out? let me know in the comments!

and check back next week for our "around the house" and "odds and ends" registry picks!

26 week bumpdate.

yesterday i got the call that my results were slightly high from my first glucose test {the cutoff is 140, and mine was 145}. so i had to go back today and take the 3 hour one, which requires fasting from 10pm last night and getting to the lab first thing in the morning, downing a drink in 5 mins {that tastes like flat super sugary orange soda} and getting your blood drawn every hour... for a total of 4 pricks. not my idea of fun. now, i'm just crossing my fingers i passed that bad boy.
How far along? 26 weeks {and 3 days}
Total weight gain/loss: last i heard was +8... my next OB appt is the beginning of july, so i probably won't weigh myself until then.
Maternity clothes? still a mixture. i did order some things from asos last week {including the dress in today's picture!} and i LOVED 4 out of 5 items... so i definitely will be ordering more from them!
Stretch marks? still looking pretty good... i've been using momma bee's belly butter every night {that i remember, anyways} and i also bought some bio-oil that i am starting to use in the mornings.
Sleep: is going okay. nothing new to report here...
Best moment: a stranger coming up to me at kohls and saying "you are SO cute" in my maternity dress :) and getting the invitation for my first shower... so excited!
Miss Anything? my wardrobe. its quickly getting much more limited these days.
Movement: he's still moving a lot, especially after i eat or at night. he's started pushing outward lately {around my bellybutton area}. it's kind of uncomfortable... he must be getting a little squished in there.
Food cravings: still fruit. mainly watermelon lately... and japanese food, which is what i've picked to have the past 2 date nights and it was delicious!
Anything making you queasy or sick: nah.
Have you started to show yet: oh, yes.
Gender: a BOY!!!
Labor Signs: all clear.
Belly Button in or out? in.
Wedding rings on or off? on.
Happy or Moody most of the time: happy {despite the 3 hour glucose test.}. the hubs even said 'i think pregnancy has made you nicer' today.
Looking forward to: taking the bump on one more beach vacation this month :)

how to: tackle a baby registry.

the hubs and i decided to register three places: target, babies r us and buy buy baby. in that particular order... i like to think that i'm pretty aware of what a baby needs, but regardless of how much you already know, it's a lot to take in.

so i put this post together to explain how we tackled our registries, and hopefully pass on a couple of helpful tips.
{via}
first up was target. basically, they give you a goody bag {which they were out of, so we didn't get one... boo} and a gun, and send you on your way. i say let the husband be in charge of scanning items- it makes things a little more fun for them {just as long as you make sure he doesn't wander off to the electronics section}.

in general, target's baby selection is not super huge- so it's a good place to go first. we started at the end aisle {which happened to be diapers} and worked our way aisle by aisle. we mostly focused on the small, practical and "fun" things here... {a diaper genie + refills, grooming and healthcare kit, baby wash, bottles, bath accessories, blankets, etc}.

i do not recommend registering for clothes {since the stock will change depending on store/season}, except maybe white onesies {im sure they carry these year round}. i do recommend adding diapers {so your friends and family know which kind you prefer}. we went with pampers- it seemed to be the most popular among my mommy friends- especially those with boys.
{via}
next up was babies r us. we had to drive about 30 mins to get to the closest one, but it's worth it, because there is a babies r us very close to one of my shower locations.

here, there was a little more instruction how to go about registering. they gave you a guide book and suggested you start in the furniture { in the back} and work your way around the store.

although they didn't have the furniture i had in mind, we tried to pick out the majority of the larger items at babies r us... we did find a stroller that we loved, even though they didn't have a car seat we liked, at least we knew what kind to be looking for {to fit with the stroller}. i felt like we were making progress!

the last store was buy buy baby. for those of you who are not familiar with it, it is owned by bed bath and beyond {and from what i hear you can use the BBB coupons at both stores!}
... imagine the same set up, floor to ceiling baby passys, bottles, swaddle blankets and everything else you can think of... yes, it is overwhelming {which is why i recommend saving it for last}.

i found that they had a better furniture selection and were relieved when we found just what i was looking for... we also picked out a playard, bumbo, diaper bag(s), and other misc. smaller items here.

 when registering,  i recommend...

to not go in with the plan of finishing it in one day. it's definitely a process, and very draining on a preggo lady... {so you probably should plan a nice dinner out afterwards}

stick to one store a day, and if at all possible- go between "normal business hours" during the week. you will receive more help and have the time and room to really look at the products. personally, i kept the mentality of if you like it, go ahead and scan it... you can always compare/edit/delete it online later.

this post ended up being a lot longer than i expected, but i hope you got some helpful tips out of it. i am currently working on a couple of posts with the specific items that we registered for and why... so check back for that!
