the new do.

as i mentioned on my life list... ive wanted to donate my hair for a long time. stylists have ALWAYS told me that i have really good, thick and healthy hair... perfect for donating. and after over a year of growing it out, i finally decided it was the time to make the cut. (and dealing with long hair in the georgia heat/humidity is not fun!)

here are a couple of before pictures so you can see just how LONG my hair was... (i didn't realize it myself, or i would've hacked it a month ago!)

i asked around to decide what salon to go to... it's such a drastic change, i knew i had to have a good, STYLISH cut.

for all of you milly people, i went to beauty & the beast. yeah, its a salon/dog groomer. kinda weird combo and i wasn't sure how i felt about it. but turns out it's pretty cool... its a brother/sister team that opened up the business together. and they're completely separate... i didn't see a dog the whole time i was there ;)

brooke cut my hair and she was fabulous. i would definitely recommend her! she really has done her research and uses hair products that are natural and healthy for your hair AND good for the environment.
i love that.
she even gave me some product samples to take home and try out before i buy a whole bottle!

and 12 INCHES LATER... here's an after picture for ya:
i LOVE my new cut. it is so light and fresh...  perfect for summertime!

and the best part is thanks to locks of love i can now share my ponytail with a young girl who has lost her own hair. hope she likes it!

what im loving wednesday: fashion edition

since i failed (again) to take pictures of my outfits this week for wiww... i decided to go a different route and link up to 'what im loving wednesdays' at  jamie's blog with some style choices im loving (aka... what i WANT to wear)

I'M LOVING:

...STRIPES!!!
seriously, like every shirt that im picking out lately is stripes... i cannot get enough.

...TOMS!
i have been wanting to buy some toms for a longgg time now... my only hold up is i can't decide what color/style to get! and also for anyone who has toms... do they run true to size? im nervous because i have a narrow foot.

... a colorful BLAZER
i am on the hunt for a colorful blazer to add to my wardrobe. how fab is this summer outfit?

... SEQUINS and SPARKLE!!
i've never been huge on sparkly things in the past... but as of lately i am LOVING everything with a little bit of shine! i just found the perfect glitter heels and now i am on the search for a sparkly dress and/or skirt!

...WEDGES
absolutely love a good wedge. sooo easy to wear for people like me who are slightly clumsy in high heels.

...LACE!
i love lc and her style. classy with a little sassy. and im loving all things lacey.

...NUDE heels.
how perfect are these nude cut-out heels? i LOVE them. and nude shoes look stylish with EVERYTHING.

oh, how i love the weekends...

friday night was DATE NIGHT... which we try to do every friday night. sometimes we do something really special... and sometimes we don't do much at all. the point is to spend time together at the end of the week and just enjoy each other's company. usually over dinner we just talk about everything... our goal is to NEVER be the couples you see out to eat sitting across from each other who go the whole meal without speaking to their wife/hubby.

we had the usual amicis for dinner... and then went to the movies. we saw bad teacher with cameron diaz... it was pretty funny! i really like cameron... she seems to be sooo happy, always smiling and laughing. athletic and gorgeous, yet humble. i started watching a E! special on her today while i was working out, but only got to see a little before it was time to get ready for work. i think we could definitely be friends in real life.
 just sayin'.

saturday we enjoyed sleeping in (its the little things, isnt it?!) and then headed to athens for athfest... we met up with our friends aaron and holly and browsed the booths a bit...

then we enjoyed a delicious, refreshing snow cone...
mine was watermelon and banana

gregory had banana.

we later regretted our snow cone decisions. the sugar and the heat didn't mix and made us feel pretty miserable. so we left athfest and went shopping for a bit before dinner.

for dinner we went to panera bread. this may not sound exciting to most of you... but remember how i said my favorite food is bread? yeah, they have really, REALLY good bread. and sandwiches, and soups. and salads
(though, lets be honest... i have a hard time choosing a salad over the other yummies)
i had my favorite combo; a tomato & mozarella panini and creamy tomato soup... i normally don't want soup when its SO hott outside (and boy, oh boy was it HOTT!) but its my fave.
did you know that panera puts the caloric intake beside all of their menu items?
well i didn't.
UNTIL i had already ordered and was waiting on my food.
let's just say i would've easily saved myself 120 calories if i woud've just gotten the lemon chicken orzo soup i contemplated getting. i just hate trying new things when i KNOW i loveee the tomato soup. so, next time i'll know and i'll make better choices.

sunday we spent a lazy afternoon lounging at my in-laws pool. it was GLORIOUS. and then we went krogering. i like it when the hubby joins me for our grocery trip. as lame as that sounds, i normally take on that task by myself... so i welcome the company and help.

we had my yummy fish tacos and rented unknown have you guys seen this movie?
if you haven't... you should totally rent it. or netflix. or whatever you guys do.
(we're old school and still go to blockbuster in the williams household).

sorry this blog post ended up being mostly about food.

(has anyone tried panera's lemon chicken orzo soup?)

lets dream a little, shall we?

i recently saw a show about ordinary people that won big playing the lottery... some of them were very extravagant in their purchases... some were rather modest. i think i'd fall somewhere in the middle of both extremes...

i thought it may be fun to write a blog about how i'd spent the money... you think so too? good.

first off, i would honestly give a lot of it away to charities i believe in, my friends and family and set aside plenty for my future children.
(via)
then i'd design and build my dream home... i wouldn't go TOO large (after all, who wants to lose their husband because their house is too big?) maybe 5-6 bedrooms, 5-6 baths... wait, thats pretty large, huh?

regardless... it'd be gorgeous. complete with a comforterable, stylish living area like this one:
(via)
...with a big, open kitchen... functional for every day cooking and entertaining
(via)
(complete with double ovens, warming rack, farm house sink and island!)
... with a gorgeous formal (yet comforterable) dining area

(via)
...with a nook just right for family breakfasts and after school snacks.
(via)
...a master bath that is swoon-worthy. calming and relaxing.
(via)
...a serene and gorgeous backyard... perfect for both adult dinner parties and kid's birthday parties.
(via)
... cozy gorgeous areas like this one.

(via)

i'd hire a stylist to beautify me EVERY day.

i'd buy a nice, but rather modest car... probably a lexus suv. ive ALWAYS wanted one.

i'd go on a shopping spreee. i'd be as stylish as this fashionista
(via)
and buy lots of pretty little numbers like this one... who cares if i am not sure where i would wear it.
(via)
...and then of course i'd have to have this closet to hold all my new little treasures...

(via)

hey, a girl can dream, right?! i guess if i ever REALLY want to win the lottery... i'd have to first PLAY the lottery.

anybody wanna go halfsies?

awkward & awesome

AWKWARD:
  • right when you finish your eye make-up, you have the urge to sneeze... which will undoubtedly cause your face to be a hott mess... so you do everything in your power to not sneeze, or at least to do it with your eyes open. (for future reference: it's impossible... you might as well wash your face and start over).
  • sneezing in general. i have the loudest most not-cute sneeze ever.
  • realizing RIGHT before i walk out the door for work that you can see the little zebras on my undies straight through my pants... (all i can say is thank goodness i noticed, or that would have been way MORE awkward)
  • when someone sends you a friend request on facebook but you have NO clue who they are and they're not even close to your age (all right, friends... fess up... who told their grandma to send me a friend request?)
AWESOME:
  • playing trivia last night... even if i only knew 2 out of 20 questions. (not very much help to my team, i know)
  • the deals i got shopping (fyi, the LOFT has a GREAT sale going on right now- i got a skirt for $9!)
  • tomorrow is friday... and DATE NIGHT with my sweet husband.
  • speaking of the husband... remember how we just had our anniversary? well i just got my present back from getting sized....
isn't it fab? i LOVE it. soooo, so much.

what i wore wednesday

lately i have not done a very good job of documenting my outfits... but i do have a couple to share with you this week.
last friday: work
black t: new york & co.
khaki ruffle skirt: new york & co. (clearance! $12!)
belt: old navy
shoes: belk (BCBG)
bag: kohls (elle)
huge sunglasses: target

i was super excited to wear this outfit because a. how fun is that skirt?! (yes, i realize it needs ironing. have i mentioned how much i hate ironing?) b. the skirt is a SIZE down from my usual. and it did not fit when i bought it.

shout out to ashley for taking the picture for me...thanks for helping a sista out. so much better than my usual mirror pictures, right?!

last week sometime (cant remember the day) i worked which ended up meaning i had to go to 3 different lowes in a dress and heels (got some funny looks... apparently that is not the usual attire for a lowes customer). after a frustrating lowes experience, i needed some retail therapy (which is why this is a dressing room pic)- don't worry the bossman TOLD me to go shopping- does he know me well or what?!
dress: calvin klein via tjmaxx
shoes: dsw

that's all ive got for you today... i'll try to get better about taking pictures! :)

im linking up to the pleated poppy. head over and check out the lovelies for some style inspiration.

pesto chicken meatballs & parmesan roasted green beans!

i found this recipe on pinterest (source: big bold beautiful food... i may have found a new fave blog!) i KNEW the hubby would be a fan... and turns out, so am i! these are super yummy and easy to make!  *i apologize for the poor quality pictures... its better than it looks!!*
pesto chicken meatballs

ingredients:
1 lb ground chicken
1/3 cup pesto sauce, homemade (recipe below) or store-bought. (i cheated and bought the pesto already made for the sake of time)
1 small-medium onion, chopped finely
1/2 cup-3/4 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese
salt and pepper to taste
1 egg, beaten (i used the equivalent of eggwhites)
a splash of milk (i used fat free)
method:
preheat oven to 350 degrees

mix ingredients together (use your hands and get messy!) until just combined and evenly distributed. mixture will be on the "wet" side.

roll meatballs (about a tablespoon worth) and put them on a lined or non-stick cookie sheet like so...
cook the meatballs in the oven for approx. 15 mins or until cooked (you can cut into one to see if it's cooked all the way through)

heat a large skillet over medium heat until hot. spray the pan with olive oil cooking spray and brown the meatballs and serve :)

i served the meatballs with parmesan roasted green beans... want that recipe too? good, i thought you might.
ingredients:
olive oil cooking spray
3/4 lb green beans, trimmed
salt and pepper, to taste
garlic powder, to taste
3 tbsp. parmesan cheese (or more if desired)

method:
preheat oven to 400 degrees. coat baking dish with spray.

rinse and trim the green beans then place them in the baking dish. season with salt, pepper and garlic powder. toss to coat. sprinkle the cheese on top of the green beans.

roast in the oven until the cheese melts and forms a crisp shell over the beans, about 10 mins. serve immediately.

weekend highlights.

the hubbster and i had a really great weekend! friday night we went out to eat and had a relaxing night at home...

saturday we slept in and then headed up to atlanta for a braves game... our friends aaron and holly organized for a group of 14 of us to go to the game together.  unfortunately, DOT has doing a lot of roadwork and they had 3 lanes closed on 75 north.... so it ended up taking greg and i wayyyyy longer than normal to get there. after sitting in the parking lot for an hour or so, we finally got to the game and the bottom dropped out.
the game went on a rain delay for the next several hours. so we all had a hot dog and a coke and hung out in the hallway talking... the game resumed at 7:50...
we had to leave the game a little after 8 because we had dinner reservations for the melting pot... which was kind of a bummer because we were only able to see one inning.

but the melting pot delivered a DELISH dinner, as always. we found a new favorite dessert: the original chocolate fondue... milk chocolate meets reeses peanut butter cups= YUMMM.

we stayed the night at my mom and dad's house... went to church with them this morning and had lunch at longhorn for fathers day... here's a picture of me and my pops today...
then we headed back home and had dinner with greg's parents... today was also his mom's birthday... so there was lots of celebrating going on! (unfortunately, i forgot to take a picture of greg with his parents... sorry! i need to get better about taking more pictures... i'll work on that.)

i'd like to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my mother-in-law, teresa... i hope it was great and i'm so glad we got to spend it with you!

HAPPY FATHERS DAY to my daddy. thank you for always being there for me, supporting me, teaching me, loving me unconditionally... and mostly for showing me what a good father and husband looks like. i love you!

HAPPY FATHERS DAY to my father-in-law, john... thank you for setting such a good example while raising my sweet husband. and thank you for always being there and supporting us in all we do!

i am super blessed with amazing men in my life. so glad i got to spend the day with my awesome family!

awkward & awesome thursday...

AWKWARD:
  • apparently pencil-skirt-wearers must all drive compact cars... have you ever tried to climb into an suv wearing one?! well... i have. and i underestimated the tricky-ness of this task. it's NOT an easy thing to do gracefully (all while trying to avoid flashing your goods to the neighbors.)
  • wearing sunglasses INSIDE my new office because my eyes are super sensitive and they haven't tinted my glass door yet.
  • while covering for my co-worker and answering her phone... a roach-like bug crawls out of the phone... i drop the phone and squeal... then try to explain myself to the bossman through my embarressment-laughter. well really, thats more gross than awkward.
AWESOME:
  • ive now lost 20 POUNDS!!! woo-freakin-hoo, people. im excited.
  • having the confidence to finally WEAR that pencil skirt that's been sitting in my closet forever and getting compliments :)
  • pedicures with a sweet friend (monica) that turns into dinner... that turns into sitting in the driveway talking for hours.
  • when it rains at night.... i sleep like a baby!

what im loving wednesday...

since i have failed at taking wiww pictures this past week... i decided to join another link up party! i recently found jamie from this kind of love. she hosts a 'what im loving wednesday' blog... seemed like a fun party to join in. so here goes nothing...
...im LOVING reuseable grocery bags
this is my go-to gift lately... and everyone loves them (or maybe they just say they do because im so enthusiastic about them?)... i like the idea of going green AND they make grocery shopping SOOO much easier... with 2-4 bags you can carry the equivalent of about 10 plastic bags...

...im LOVING my new gold watch.
(from new york & co)
i was hesitant to wear gold but now that i've got this beauty, i've found a way to wear her almost every day.

...im LOVING summer made- from- real- fruit- strawberry popsicles.... YUMMMM.
no, that is not a picture of the actual popsicles im loving... i am just too lazy to walk to the freezer and take a picture of my real life popsicles. (and this picture was prettier anyways).

...im LOVING diet dr. pepper
i am a former special occasions coke lover... but since ive been making healthier choices i have found a new love for diet dr. pepper when i need a caffine kick but don't want the calories. (which has happened twice this week... im sleep deprived)

... as always, im loving the hubbster and the fur-baby. (ill add a picture of them later... my iphone/email are not on the same page right now... and as i mentioned, i. am. sleepy.)

what are YOU lovin???

goodnight, lovelies.

fruity summer salad & balsamic grilled bruschetta chicken

i have been enjoying cooking again lately and have a few new recipes to share with you... for dinner the other night i started with this salad:
(mixed greens, mandarin oranges, strawberries, blueberries, toasted almonds, goat cheese crumbles, light balasmic dressing= yum)

and i tried out this new balsamic grilled bruschetta chicken recipe i found on pinterest. my new favorite OBSESSION. it is from picky palate and the hubby and i agree that it is DELICIOUS. and super quick and easy.

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, thawed
pinch of salt
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
8 slices fresh mozzarella cheese

4 roma tomatoes, seeded and diced
5 fresh basil leaves, chopped
3 cloves fresh garlic, minced (i only used maybe one clove worth of jarred kind)
pinch of salt
1 tablespoon balsamic

1. preheat a grill pan over medium heat on the stovetop. spray with cooking spray. combine balsamic and olive oil in a small bowl. season both sides of the chicken with pinches of salt and place in pan. brush top sides of chicken with balsamic mixture.cook 4-5 mins. and flip the chiken. brush with more balsamic and cook until cooked all the way. during the last two minutes, places 2 slices of cheese over top of chicken to melt.

2. combine tomatoes, basil, garlic, salt and balsamic. toss or stir gently. place chicken on serving plate and top with mixture. serve warm and enjoy :)

yep... its THAT easy. let me know if you try it! :)

awkward & awesome thursday!

AWKWARD:
  • after shopping, getting in the car and realizing i put my shirt on inside out after my last dressing room trip.
  • showing up to work (actually ON TIME!) on memorial day to find the gate closed... i would've sworn i worked it last year!
  • while krogering i always seem to pick the loudest most dysfuctional buggy that clicks or abruptly stops rolling every 5 seconds.
  • realizing while krogering that my new shorts still have the tags hanging from the back... i hate to admit, but this happens to me all the time.

AWESOME:
  • a surprise day off work.
  • i have officially moved in to my new office...now i just need to decorate and make it mine :)
  • my sweet hubby. he is so encouraging and supportive (especially with recent diet and exercise). it really helps to keep me motivated.
  • its officially summer in georgia. i am very much enjoying relaxing days at the pool on the weekends.
  • pinterest. it is safe to say i am OBSESSED. if you have not heard of the website... give me your email address and ill invite you.
sorry for the lack of pictures in this post! ill do better next time...

family time.

while i am currently working on a couple very exciting blog posts (stay tuned!)... since they're not quite ready, just wanted to show off a picture of my good looking family today :)

this past weekend my brother was able to "come home" to go to a wedding with mandy. it's somewhat rare that we have the whole family together and we hadn't had a family picture taken since eli was born. so we braved the heat and tried to find a shady spot in the yard... and this is what we got.
poor mandy had to run back and forth about 10 times to get a decent picture of all of us. did anyone notice how coordinated our outfits are without being matchy- matchy? the brown men were grumpy grumpsters... but i think it was well worth it.

letter to my 16 yr old self...

ashley from little miss momma recently posted a letter of advice she would give herself at 16 years old ... it had me inspired to write one to myself....

dear 16 year old lori,

i know you think you've got it all figured out, and you probably wouldn't listen to any advice (even from your own future-self)... but if i could tell you anything, i would say...

lose the attitude with your parents. mom and dad really AREN'T trying to ruin all your fun. and believe it or not, they DO know what they're talking about most of the time.

be respectful. quit the eye-rolling. its rude. and not cute.

be as involved as possible... don't be scared to try something new.

be kind to EVERYONE. branch out. make more of an effort to compliment others, listen and understand.

if your dad and brother do not approve of the guy your crushing on... don't waste your time. choose the NICE guy. even if he doesn't seem like the EXCITING choice.

APPRECIATE your teachers. and tell them.

don't stress the small stuff. ENJOY everything. football games, homecoming, prom, girls nights... these are the things you will remember. and all the fun you had with the people you were with.

be CONFIDENT. do not worry about what others think so much. remember that you are your own worst critic.

learn to LAUGH at yourself.

dad is right. you really ARE prettier when you smile.

look at the BIG picture. and don't take things too seriously.

don't be too upset when you do not receive an acceptance letter from georgia state. God has a better plan for you... and georgia college is where it is at. there you will meet many AMAZING people (including your future husband) and have the time of your life...

don't worry about the future... you will find true LOVE and HAPPINESS. just enjoy the ride...

oh, and you ARE right about one thing... you do NOT need algebra to succeed in the real world ;)

with love,
24 year old lori

memorial day weekend. (a little late)

i know im wayyyy behind on blogging... so let me attempt to catch up...

last weekend over memorial day my sister in law, niece and nephew came to visit us for a few days... saturday night we went out to eat and rented 'up'... i was expecting a light hearted happy kids movie.. it was acutally very sad but sweet too... then sunday we spent the day at my in-laws pool and had tacos at home.

monday we realized we hadnt taken a single picture together. so mandy took some pictures of us before lunch at chick fil a...
somebody lovesss her uncle greg :)

i can't get over how BIG she has gotten.
greg and i with both the babies...
then i took this picture of mandy and the kids... turned out pretty good, yeah?

this weekend we spent some time with the WHOLE family at mimi and pops house... my brother derek even made it home for the weekend to go to a wedding with mandy.

it was good to be able to spend so much time with them lately while they were visiting georgia. now they are on their way back to virginia... i think we'll see them again in august for a family vacation. im sure sophia and eli will grow a ton between now and then.
